The town of Amalfi, which gives its name to the entire divine coastline, is one of the most renowned tourist centers in Campania, owing all its fame to the beauty of the places, the clear sea and the mildness of the climate. The town, unmistakable in appearance and picturesque in its location, clings to the rocky overhangs of the Lattari Mountains and wedges into the narrow Valle dei Mulini. The characteristic houses over time have leaned against each other, the streets and stairways have thus wedged between the dwellings taking advantage of the smallest spaces; everything seems miniaturized and above all, every corner and alley opens up unusual perspectives and silent, picturesque views. Standing out among this unmistakable cluster of white dwellings is the marvelous Duomo, soaring up a high flight of steps from Amalfi's main square. Not to be missed is a visit to the spectacular Emerald Grotto located in the enchanting Bay of Conca dei Marini just a few minutes by boat from Amalfi. It can be accessed from the main road by elevator or staircase or from the sea; at the entrance quay a characteristic small boat introduces into the cave, which, as if by magic, is transformed into a fantastic green temple, rich in caryatids, figures and bas-reliefs: works of the millennia and of the water slipping from the vaults. The cave communicates with the sea through a narrow underwater opening and the light, filtering through the water creates an unreal atmosphere.
